Direct Print 3pieses:179.4x344.8cm, 179.8x223.4cm, 179.5x344.7cm
With its large open spaces
and abundance of products, commercial facilities are attractive
places that stimulate the desires of many people. However, in Yanagi's
works, the goods and shoppers are removed, leaving exposed to view
only a fictitious consumption space with elevator girls, who stage
our consumer patterns and activities. While skillfully picking up
and displaying the characteristics of Japanese cities gradually
undergoing standardization, Yanagi also comments that these are
scenes that she herself "would like to see." The image
of the "ideal city," completely computer controlled and
created according to the artist's ideas, is a masterful expression
of the reality of our everyday lives as we try to keep our balance
on the border between truth and fiction.
