Lewis Carroll’s timeless literary classic, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland has transcended generations to continue to be one of the most popular stories read worldwide by both children and adults. This story was published as a book which became a worldwide bestseller and has since been translated into more than 170 languages. This was the first children’s book to cast itself free from the spell of Victorian morality and not only did it become a monumental work for British children’s literature, it also stimulated the creative spirit in artists in a variety of genres including art, film, theatrical performance, photography, and fashion.

In this exhibition, approximately 200 exhibits will narrate and explore anew-from diversified angles-the fascinating charm of “Alice” which from its birth to this present day has never faded. The exhibition will start of by examining the origin of the story to its publication and expansion through precious historical materials. Next, it will venture into the stories of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There through the works of some of the world’s most renowned illustrators. Lastly, as Alice no longer exists only within a book, the exhibition will also explore the burgeoning “world of Alice” created by prominent artists from Japan and abroad who have sublimated the magic of Alice into their artworks with their unique interpretations.
