The Creative Origins of Mamoru Hosoda

Duration Fri. Jan. 22nd, 2027 - Sun. Mar. 28th, 2027

It has been twenty years since The Girl Who Leapt Through Time was released.

The Creative Origins of Mamoru Hosoda is an exhibition featuring animated film director Mamoru Hosoda. On an unprecedented scale, this show presents production materials—including storyboards, layouts, original drawings, and concept art—primarily from The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Summer Wars, and Wolf Children, films that continue to captivate large audiences even today. This is an opportunity to discover the works that mark the origins of director Hosoda from a new perspective and revisit the emotions they evoked that summer.

Hosoda continues to produce highly engaging works, drawing bold inspiration from animation, film, and painting. This exhibition delves into how his unique vision is brought to life in animation, while also exploring his universality as an artist and the themes that extend into the production of Scarlet.
